Established in 1995, the Majella park is one of the 24 Italian national parks and one of the three parks in Abruzzo. Inside there are extraordinary natural reserves and leading cultural heritage of Italy. There are more than 1000 plant species and over 150 animals. The Majella massif is second only to the Gran Sasso, in the ranking of the highest peaks of the Apennines. It has 74,095 hectares and includes 39 municipalities in the provinces of L'Aquila, Chieti and Pescara.

It is a wild and uncontaminated valley, rich in colours and scents that change quickly; from lilac orchids, to violet gentians to white snowy peaks.
​
In the Majella National Park, you will come across unique wildlife: wolves, deer, roe deer, chamois, eagles and the famous Marsican Bear.

Hotel Ede is the starting point for numerous excursions, and in addition to being affiliated with, is close to the Park Visitor Center.
The Visitor Center of the Orfento Valley provides information for naturalistic trekking. It houses a small museum and a wildlife area for the recovery of fauna. It also organizes educational workshops for younger guests who will discover the habits of the Otter, a kind mustelid symbol of the Orfento Valley.

Also worth visiting, are the hermitages such as the abbey of San Liberatore a Majella, the Celestinian hermitages of Morrone (Sant'Onofrio and San Pietro) and Majella (San Bartolomeo di Legio, Santo Spirito a Majella)

Parco della Majella
Il parco della Majella si estende in un’altitudine che va dai 130 ai quasi 3000 metri. Comprende le province di Chieti, Aquila e Pescara. Ha un’elevata montuosità e racchiude molte aree selvagge e naturalistiche, ricco di biodiversità e natura. Il parco ospita il 78% di mammiferi e rappresenta un vero e proprio centro di biodiversità da rispettare e tutelare.

Dal punto di vista naturalistico, il parco conta oltre 2100 specie di piante censite e contiene oltre il 65% della flora dell’Abruzzo.
​
Dal punto di vista storico, il parco è stato abitato già da 800 mila anni fa, tempo del Paleolitico, dove risiedevano antichi raccoglitori di piante e cacciatori.
​
A partire dagli anni 90’ la Majella è diventata un polo d’attrazione a 360 gradi. Trekking, camminate all’aperto, escursioni con gli animali, avventura e altre attività che coinvolgono tutta la famiglia.
